Today’s Photoshoot

Published by under News

Crossposted on A Dancer’s Prism

We had a perfect window between the morning wind and rain, and this afternoon’s snow. The girls were fantastic performing for a small crowd of downtown denizens enjoying the Riverwalk. This is but a sample, we’ll be pouring over the sixty-some shots in preparation for their dAdima SEEDs graduation in a few weeks. Stay tuned, we’ll be posting more soon.

Congrats, Girls!

Published by under Events,News

This is our group photo from our very first student showcase, which took place Saturday December 4, 2010 at 4pm.

From left to right here are Lee Ann, Jenny, Emily, Lianna, Danielle, Ben and Karla down in front.

We went through a little mini-class so parents could understand what the girls go through each class, we did some zill drills, then the girls performed a piece THEY put together.

The girls did SO amazing, and we could not be more proud of them. They really worked hard to impress their friends and families, and it really showed! Here’s everyone all blinged up for the day.

It was a great time had by all, and now we enjoy a bit of Winter break.

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

Time Marches On…Month Two

Published by under News

And already, another month has passed! What an amazing odyssey it’s been so far!

In October/November, there were several milestones for the girls. One of the highlights of our month was a guest speaker, Kari Ramos, who visited us on 10-30-10.

Kari talked to us about self-esteem, the messages media and marketing give to all women indicating they are “less than” as they exist naturally, her experience as a former beauty queen, and then we worked on a project. All of us were asked to make self-esteem vision boards. The task was to go through magazines and select messages and photo’s that would help you feel better if someone, including yourself, was saying or doing negative things affecting you.

As always, the focus of our time together is DANCE DANCE DANCE. More than that, we are trying to get the girls to learn about their bodies, how their bodies move, and how to guide them gracefully through space and move with flow and control.

We spend a lot of time drilling, but this month, we moved to understanding and creating simple choreography! The girls have been working on their own piece, which will be performed this Saturday in our student showcase. Look for more pictures and an update after the weekend!

Here’s hoping everyone had an awesome, productive, loving and none-too-glutinous recent holiday, and stay tuned to check out progress!

Happy Holidays.

A Month In…

Published by under News

Last week marked our first month in the birth of the Northern Nevada SEED’s program! We wanted to take some time and update with some on-going pictures and talk a bit about what we are doing.

First, I have to give props to our beautiful space! Achieve Fitness is amazing and we’ve felt so welcome there. Here is an overview of our room:

And here are the girls during one of our talking circles:

So far, the girls have learned a TON of bellydance technique, honestly, that’s why they look so tired here =) No, seriously, we are using a multi-disciplinary approach to mold their minds and bodies into strong adults!

This last month has been an AMAZING experience! Look for information soon about more classes, our salon coming up on December 4th for friends and family, and more information about what’s doing.

Peace!

Myra is a true inspiration!

Published by under News

On September 24, 2010, the daDima SEED’s program was honored enough to have Myra Krien, the creative genius behind the creation of the Pomegranate SEED’s program, in Reno for a show and workshops.

As an educator, as an innovator, as a human being and as a dancer, we cannot express how very fine the experience was, how much it was appreciated, and how amazing it was to be in the presence of this amazing human for two-and-a-half days…

Myra performed in a show Friday night, which fused Flamenco, Tribal Belly Dance, and incorporated some of the pop-and-lock technique that is currently very popular in belly dance in addition to moves from hip-hop and other dances fused together. The performance was fantastic! On Saturday, she taught two workshops, which were attended by one of our SEEDs students, and we were able to attend one workshop before class. Then, on Sunday, Myra did a longer workshop for the Asha World Dancers and covered posture, technique, and learning a bangra-style dance. It was SO MUCH FUN!

We were awed at her poise, her energy, and her knowledge. This was truly a gift, and we are all thankful to have had the opportunity!
