We are VERY excited to launch dAdima, Reno’s chapter of the S.E.E.D. program!
Begun by Myra Krien through her Pomegranate Studios in Santa Fe, New Mexico as an after-school program designed to expose youth to the finest instruction in Middle Eastern Dance. The S.E.E.D.s program integrates programming that promotes self-discovery self-esteem and self-actualization through mentorship and teaching life skills to aid young women in attaining the skills necessary to achieve independence in all phases of their lives.
Our MISSION
To mentor young women in order to create healthy and strong individuals who are socially and fiscally responsible to themselves and their community. This is accomplished through the vehicle of dance, specifically Improvisational Tribal Style (ITS) dance, talking circles, journal writing and presentations.
Our PROGRAM
The program accepts 20 teen girls (15 to 20 years old) in the Reno community for one academic year of after-school classes, 1 1/2 hours each, three times per week. Entrance into the program does not depend on demonstrated talent, standard beauty, or ability to pay the fees the program would require.
Our time at Dilworth is concluded, but I know that ALL of the SEEDS instructors had a fantastic time and are thankful for the experience! As teachers, we feel less than adequate if we don’t learn from our students as we teach them and learn from them we did! The young adults we taught were gracious, present, and willing to learn. Our only regret is that we didn’t have more time to spend with them! They endured the rigors of Middle School, track practice, their own ailments and foibles and their peers to learn dance with us, and we admire and respect them for it. We had a great time and hope to be able to share with them again!
Our very first email announcement about dAdima’s program launch went out over the weekend. A copy of the postcard advert is below.
We’re very pleased with the response and support that have been coming in. You all are great! We have 99% of out ducks in a row; we have the studio – thank you Karen!, we have the curriculum fundamentally all in order, now all we need are our students…
We are offering a two week mini-session as a teaser for anyone 13-18 to try free. So it you are interested, or know anyone that might be, please spread the word!
The d’Adima S.E.E.D.S team of Northern Nevada is excited announce the partnership of S.E.E.D.S with the after school program Team Up[Together Everyone Achieves More Utilizing Programs] of Washoe County. This nine week program at Dilworth Middle School will lead students through a shortened curriculum of Myra Krien’s combination of International Tribal Style Dance and life skills that include body awareness, self esteem building exercises, posture work and the basic moves of belly dance.

The goal of the d’Adima S.E.E.D.S team is to mentor young people in order to create healthy and strong individuals who are responsible to themselves and to their communities. This will be achieved by helping them to find their voice through self confidence and self esteem, to generate choices and create options to achieve their goals, to respect and appreciate their own bodies, to value others in the community and to honor diversity and culture.
A new post is coming soon about our recent developments and activities. We are very excited about the warming weather and possibilities that are starting to emerge. But in the mean time, here is a tease-sample of a shot at our recent photo shoot with photographer Lenae Payne!
The images are stunning, as are our dancers!! More to come…
